The majority of Rembrandt's portrait prints were made for private distribution to immediate family and friends, much like modern photographs. The laudatory inscription at the bottom of this print, however, suggests that it may have been commissioned for distribution to a wider circle of friends and co-religionists. Wytenbogaert (1557–1644), a powerful and influential preacher, was the leader of the Remonstrant movement in the
