Status
Not on viewThe Spanish siege on the city of Zierikzee (present-day Zeeland in the Netherlands) during the Eighty Years’ War lasted 10 months, from October 1575 to July 1576. Frans Hogenberg’s aerial view of the siege blends cartography with historical narrative, abstracting the scene to reveal the true subject of the image: the contested nature of land.
