Not on viewAs an Islamic woman living in Texas, Butt addresses global histories of art and gender. She was trained in Indian and Persian miniature painting in Lahore and adapts this genre, frequently featuring a female heroine in Western clothing. Her protagonist wields swords against demons, serpents, and other enemies—symbolic of sexism, assault, and personal struggles faced by women in Pakistan and around the world.
