Giampietrino (Giovanni Pietro Rizzoli)Italian, active 1495–1540
Though the dates of his birth and death remain unknown, Giampietrino's works show that he was most active from 1495 to 1549, during the height of the Italian renaissance. He worked in Leonardo da Vinci's studio from 1497-1530, where he became one of da Vinci's most famous students.
His most famous known works include Virgin and Child with Saint, an altarpiece he painted for the Church of San Marino in Pavia, as well as a series of private commissions depicting Cleopatra, Mary Magdalene, and the Goddess Diana. Giampietrino's works clearly reflects Leonardo's influence in their depiction of form and subject matter, though the use of paler skin tones is more characteristic of Giampietrino's personal style.
