Xiè Shíchén 谢时臣 / 謝時臣Chinese, 1488–after 1567
Xie Shichen 谢时臣 / 謝時臣 (Hsieh Shih-ch'en) is a native of Suzhou and spend much of his life in that region. He may have been a professional artist, although there is no clear evidence that he worked on an openly commercial basis. His style is derived from that of fellow Suzhou native, Shen Zhou, although it also has some affinities to the styles of Dai Jin and Wu Wei. He is known for painting large-scale pictures and screens, often with subjects taken from history and literature.
