Provenance(Kornfeld und Klipstein, Bern, Switzerland);¹ purchased July 1968 by Allen Memorial Art Museum ¹Kornfeld & Klipstein, auction Lagerkatalog 68, cat. no. 366, p. 44 A note in the auction cat. supposedly says that this (?) is the example mentioned by Schiefler from the Stinnes collection -- or might that refer to another example, with the Lugt 2373/a mark? Needs research. Heinrich Stinnes was a Cologne collector (1867-1932) with a vast coll. of modern prints, dispersed in sales at Boerner's/Leipzig, 10-11 Nov. 1932; Hollstein & Puppel/Berlin 25-27 May and 10-11 Nov. 1936; Puppel/Berlin 8-9 Dec. 1937 and 19-20 May 1938; and Gutekunst & Klipstein/Bern 20-22 June 1938, as well as other sales (see Fondation Lugt online).
