More Information
This portrait has been attributed to two artists, Martin Schaffner and Hans Burgkmair, and its origin in Augsburg is very probable. The artist's treatment of the brocaded background which dates back to Durer's Elsbeth Tucher of 1499, is a comparatively rare feature, though it can also be found in portraits by Schaffner. What does stand out as a distinguishing feature is the parallel pen hatchings on the front side of the face.
