ProvenancePossibly in the collection of Dr. Joaquín Carvallo [1869-1936], Villandry, France (by 1923);¹ (his sale, Hotel de Ventes, Tours, France, 19 November 1953, no. 76); (Rosenberg and Stiebel, New York); purchased 1955 by the Allen Memorial Art Museum, Oberlin, OH Notes: ¹August L. Mayer, "Jusepe Ribera" (Leipzig, 1923), p. 204 documents a painting of a blind sculptor in the Carvallo collection, although he doubts the attribution and suggests it may be by Luca Giordano. This may refer to the Allen painting, as its model is the same as that for Ribera's "Sense of Touch" (Prado Museum, no. 1112)Exhibition History
