Caldwell; by gift 1976 to Allen Memorial Art Museum, Oberlin, OH Notes: [1] Richard Farnsworth acquired the textile from war plunder taken from Beijing to Tokyo. "It is a roll of silk, on which is written in both Chinese and Manchu an dimperial commendation for a Chinese general who had won victories for the Manchus. Thus given me by Richard Farnsworth, who was an officer in the American occupation for us in Japan immediately after the Japanese surrender. He found it in some war booty taken from Peking to Tokyo. Many years later he gave it to me." Exhibition History
