More Information
The work of a highly skilled artist, this fresco fragment depicts the head of a saint, whose short hair, beardless face, red crown and tunic suggest that he is a martyr, possibly the hero-horseman St. George. The white brushstrokes, darker complexion, and the treatment of the nose betray the work, or perhaps influence, of Greek masters.
