Status
On viewTrained in China as a realist painter, in the United States in the early 1990s, Xiaoze Xie [SHYAO-ZUH SHYEH] began to paint books and newspapers found in libraries. To him, these random stacks seemed to suggest the fragmentary character of our understanding of the world, the chance survival of historical information, and the blurring of memory as new experiences replace old. This print is based on a 2005 painting from the artist’s Museum Library series.
