On viewFranklin has a rare mobility disease that affects her joints and limits motion in her arms and legs. In response to the pharmaceutical industry’s prohibitive pricing, she obtains her medication from unofficial providers. Each morning, she performs a “bio ritual,” photographing her medication in still-life arrangements prior to injecting herself. Printed on fabric, these photos and text fragments referencing herbal remedies are the basis for the imagery that comprises this fragile, hand-quilted cushion.
