On viewAn artist and disability activist, Franklin suffers from a rare mobility disease that affects her joints and limits motion in her arms and legs. Each morning, she performs a self-described "bio ritual," photographing her medication in still-life arrangements prior to injecting herself. Printed on fabric, these photos and text fragments referencing herbal remedies are the basis for the imagery in this fragile, hand-stitched quilt. Often, her work responds to the dehumanizing experience of the medical and pharmaceutical industries reducing her personhood to a series of body parts in need of specialized medical attention.
