Not on viewLanguage is symbol, medium, and subject in Daou’s work. In fragmentary form, this drawing includes the text of Patrick Henry’s March 23, 1775 “Give me liberty, or give me death!” speech, in which he urged volunteers to organize in every Virginia county to defend against the coming war with Britain. It is transliterated into Arabic sounds, not translated. Thus, if someone were to read the text out loud, it would sound like the speech in English.
