Not on viewCampus is best known for his introspective video art of the 1970s, but, in his words, “The interior examinations became overwhelming…I had to stop.” Around 1980, Campus started working exclusively in nature photography, shifting from the “interior to the exterior.” Epitomizing this shift, In the Narrows offers a bleak view of the tidal strait where the Hudson River empties into the Atlantic Ocean, reflecting the dissonant yet porous boundary between city and nature.
