More Information
Huangshan, or "the Yellow Mountains," in Anhui province is one of China’s most famous scenic locations. Liú Hǎisù visited the site 10 times, and it was a frequent subject of his paintings. The inscription reads in part, "Huangshan is the most magnificent [place] in the world. It is deep, strange and dangerous, beautifully craggy, and changes color from day to night. Although I may paint well, I cannot convey its wonder. In the past, people came here to understand, yet said there is no understanding, there is no comprehending, even if one touches [the mountains]."
