Status
On viewThomas depicts Black women—often friends, family, or lovers—in lavish settings, recalling Western art historical motifs such as the reclining Venus. The brilliant fabrics that decorate her interiors and adorn her subjects function as markers of personal identity. Based on a large painting of the same name, this collage incorporates handmade, patterned papers, glitter, and fabric to achieve a tactile effect.
