More Information
Contemporary critics praised this idyllic panorama of peace and plenty in the Connecticut River Valley as an "eminently truthful" record of a "virtuous and happy vale," which boasted "charming bits of local color." Hart's pastoral landscapes were actually a carefully monitored blend of realistically observed details within a pleasantly perfected setting.
