Status
Not on viewHiroshige depicts a sudden downpour over Shono. With hurried steps, the travelers run to take shelter. A basket-seller is running breathlessly up the steep mountain road, while a traveler helps to ensure that his baskets do not blow away, and a servant comes hurrying along with an umbrella. Hiroshige attached great importance to the depiction of even the smallest details. The countryside, heavily veiled in rain, and the perspective depth of the bamboo forest in the background, are masterfully reproduced in a color composition whose total effect is almost idyllic.
