Not on viewThe Oakland, California-based photographer, Lavenson, is known for her detailed studies of architecture and industrial forms. Her sensitivity to light and shadow comes across in this study of eucalyptus leaves, which demonstrates a turning point in her career from the soft-focus, pictorialist tradition to using a sharp focus lens. Shortly before it was taken, in 1930, Lavenson was introduced to the photographer Imogen Cunningham, who became a mentor.
